A 1990 graduate of Leland High School, Matt went on to play at Mississippi Delta Community College where he led the nation in saves in 1991 with 15. He later moved on to Division II power Delta State University and finished 1995 with a school record 0.36 ERA in 28 appearances and was named to the All-American team by ABCA. 

Matt went on to enjoy a 13 year professional baseball career with seven different organizations including 5 years at the Major League level with the Cleveland Indians and Colorado Rockies. He retired in 2008 after logging 100 games in the Big Leagues with a 2.72 career ERA. Matt along with running 59 Baseball, works as a associate scout with the Boston Red Sox.
